Everyone wants to have a go at exploring the Moutere by bike but not everyone feels up to doing the Mountain bike club’s 26km cross country ride through some reasonably rugged farmland! So The Gentle Cycling Company have once again decided to mount a shorter ride over the flatter sections of the Moutere route.

The route is a loop, with a 7 or 11km option and finishes at the festival site. Cyclists will travel along quiet sealed roads, farm tracks & mown paddocks, passing through vineyards, raspberry & blackcurrant fields, hop gardens & open fields. There are some rolling hills on the road section at the beginning and the remainder is flat. This year we have drawn a Gentle Cycle Map 2014 to show you this amazing ride.

Children are welcome as long as they are reasonably experienced riders. This is not recommended for children under the age of 8, and of course all children participating must be accompanied by an adult.

It’s time to get your entry forms in for the great Moutere Valley Mountain Bike Race which will start and finish at the Sarau Festival. Registrations will remain open up to and including the day of the Festival. Local farmers open their gates for us and the race crosses diverse Moutere farmland including olive groves, orchards, hop gardens, fields of blackcurrants and boysenberries, vineyards and even pass by protected native bush areas. It is definitely a fantastic opportunity to bike in areas normally not accessible to the public!

If you enjoy getting out on your bike, and have a reasonable level of fitness come and join us on 2nd February. To register download and email us the form on the right-hand side of this page or print it out and post to us with your entry fee.

A magical opportunity for a magical ride in the Moutere. Open to everyone just for fun as well as serious competitors. Check out the route MTB Race 2014.

Our cooking demo was a big hit with Mark Mehalski – chef at the wonderful Jellyfish Cafe and Bar on the Mapua wharf. For the Sarau Festival, Mark made two simple but incredibly delicious desserts using local blackcurrants –  the famous “Eton Mess”, and “Knickerbocker Glory”. And a mouthwatering “Pork Belly with Blackcurrants”. Click on the links to download the recipes and try them for yourself. Hope you’ve still got some blackcurrants in the freezer!
