The writing and limerick competition at the Sarau Festival included some lively contributions. Unfortunately not all are printable but here are the winning contributions from the adults and the children’s sections:

Limericks:

Adults competition

1st:

Pam

There was a young blackcurrant named Pam

Who got herself in a bit of a jam

The rumours spread

That she was on bread

But really she had eloped with a lamb

Duncan McKinlay

Children:

1st

There was a blackcurrant called Jack

Whose skin was very very black.

When asked was it bruises,

he made no excuses,

and said I’m the king of the pack.

Jack MacNeil (7years)

Another sensational festival showcasing what the Moutere Community can do! There were over one hundred stalls of delicious food, drinks and so much creativity. A huge thank-you on behalf of the organisers for coming and helping to raise money for a defibrilator for Upper Moutere village. The Rai Jin Taiko drummers opened the festival and Hi Strung followed them in the line-up. Gecko were the feature band of the evening and got the crowd dancing until dusk. The Moutere Hills Way2Go trailer was there , keeping the children entertained for hours. There were competitions galore and everyone had a fantastic day! Thanks again for every contribution to the success of this event.

Summer Pudding by Steve Richards of The Jester House
Line a 1 litre glass bowl with stale toast slice white bread (crusts removed),
(save enough to cover the top as well).
In a pot warm 250g black currants with 100g sugar until the juices start to run
Add
250g raspberries
250g blackberries
250g strawberries
continue to warm until the fruit is soft but not cooked.
Do not bring to the boil.
Pour the fruit into the lined bowl, cover the top with reserved bread,
place a plate on top then a heavy weight on the plate e.g. a pot of
water
Refrigerate over night. Before serving turn the pudding out onto a
plate and serve with lashings of cream.
Any combination of fruit will work but currants and raspberries are traditional.
Enjoy!
