Creative and skilled Miles of Food owner and chef, Miles Drewery, has agreed to share some of his recipes using good local produce (including blackcurrants). Be in the audience in the function area at 5pm or 6pm to watch him cook and share his ideas.
Just who is Miles Drewery? Miles’ first foray into the cooking world was as a teenager in Blenheim, where he worked for Rosemary Sutton at Timara Lodge and was hooked! He has since worked in Kitchens in the UK and British Columbia in Canada after which it was back to Tai tapu NZ where he set-up and ran the Kitchen for the renowned Wineshed Restaurant and bar. Then into Christchurch where he was Head Chef at the Bohemian Café Restaurant and most recently, owned and operated a café on the edge of central Christchurch. This took Miles to the middle of 2008, when the sale of the café prompted the move to the Nelson region for a new start!
Miles has been involved in several cooking demonstrations for art festivals and for charity evenings over the years, where he enjoys showing the audience something different that they can use at home- talking and cooking come naturally to Miles! You may have spotted Miles in the celebrity “cook off” at the Nelson A&P show against the Countdown ad chef, Richard Till, an interesting competition ensued ending in a victory to Miles!
Miles has always wanted to set up his own Café Deli where he could really do the things he wanted, like making salami, preserves and other deli specialities. And so Miles Of Food, Richmond is a work in progress and Miles feels it is evolving to become a real Deli…. where all the cold meats, preserves, meals, sandwiches and specialty items are made on site or by small local producers. It is no wonder that Miles was the overall winner of the Sarau Festival blackcurrant cooking competition last year and if we’re lucky, he might reveal his prize-winning recipe for venison and blackcurrant pie!
